Bringing Food Directly to Communities in Need
At Selma Area Food Bank, our mission goes beyond simply storing food — we’re committed to getting it into the hands of those who need it most. Our Mobile Pantry Program is an essential extension of that mission, designed to overcome barriers to food access by bringing fresh, nutritious food directly to underserved communities.
Selma Area Food Bank partners with a network of local agencies — including churches, community centers, civic groups, and nonprofits — to host mobile pantry distributions across Dallas, Perry, Marengo, and Wilcox counties. These partners serve as trusted community hubs, helping us reach residents who may face transportation challenges or live in areas without nearby grocery stores or food assistance resources.
Each mobile pantry event is coordinated in advance with one of our partner agencies and stocked with food items provided by Selma Area Food Bank. The types of food distributed vary by delivery, but often include:
Fresh fruits and vegetables
Shelf-stable pantry staples
Protein items like meat or beans
Dairy products when available
Special items like hygiene kits or household necessities
Our team loads the food, delivers it directly to the distribution site, and supports the local agency in ensuring an efficient and dignified experience for all recipients.
Mobile pantry distributions are open to the public and typically operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Each partner agency may establish their own intake or verification process based on community needs, but no one is turned away due to financial hardship.
Rural and economically challenged communities often lack consistent access to grocery stores or food pantries. Through our Mobile Pantry Program, we bring the food to the people — reducing the strain on families, helping seniors on fixed incomes, and supporting parents trying to stretch limited budgets.
Selma Area Food Bank is committed to ensuring equitable access to food and services for all individuals. In accordance with federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, we do not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex (including gender identity and sexual orientation), disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.
We are an equal opportunity provider and operate our programs in full compliance with USDA and Feeding America guidelines. All individuals seeking assistance are treated with dignity and respect.
